How can we help?

Answers to the most common questions about deploying and using GovernPoint. Can't find what you need? Submit a ticket and we will reply within one working day.

Getting started

4
What is GovernPoint?

GovernPoint is a SharePoint Online governance and Microsoft Copilot readiness analyzer, deployed as a SharePoint Framework (SPFx) web part inside your own tenant. It scans every library, list, page and SharePoint Agent and produces 0-100 governance scores across six categories, with seven one-click remediations available from the dashboard.

How do I open GovernPoint?

Once an administrator has added the web part to a SharePoint page, open that page and GovernPoint loads automatically. It detects your role: administrators see the full six-tab dashboard, while site members and visitors see the Simplified Dashboard.

What are the six main tabs?

General, Libraries, Lists, Pages, AI Agents (Copilot readiness) and History. Each tab scores the relevant items and lets you switch between Site scope and Tenant scope.

Does GovernPoint support dark mode?

Yes. GovernPoint inherits your SharePoint theme and includes a dark mode that switches automatically with your environment.

Scores & governance categories

4
How does the 0-100 scoring scale work?

Every library, list and page runs through governance checks across six categories. Each check returns PASS, WARN or FAIL with a points value. The final score is the percentage of total possible points earned. Scores 80-100 are green, 60-79 amber, 0-59 red.

What are the six governance categories?

Content Governance & Lifecycle, Access & Permission Hygiene, Information Architecture & Metadata, Content Duplication & Sprawl, Ownership & Accountability, and Licensing & Feature Enablement.

Why did my score change unexpectedly?

Scores reflect the live state of your content. Adding items, changing permissions, or new stale/duplicate/version-bloat conditions will move a score. Open the item detail view to see exactly which checks changed.

What do stale content, duplicate content and version bloat mean?

The library detail view flags documents not modified in a long time (stale), near-identical copies (duplicate), and items carrying an excessive number of versions (version bloat) - the three biggest drivers of SharePoint sprawl and Copilot noise.

Copilot readiness

4
Does GovernPoint require a Microsoft Copilot licence?

No. GovernPoint analyses your SharePoint environment for Copilot readiness whether or not you currently have a Copilot licence. The whole point is to audit and remediate before you spend on Copilot licences.

What does the AI Agents tab show?

It has four sub-tabs: Overview (your Copilot readiness score), Agent Inventory (every SharePoint Agent / .agent file), Per Library (readiness broken down by library), and Remediation Actions (one-click fixes that improve readiness).

How is Copilot readiness scored?

Readiness is assessed across Discoverability, Metadata, Access and Content Sources - the signals that determine whether Copilot can find, understand and safely surface your content.

How long does a tenant-wide scan take?

GovernPoint scans sites in parallel batches of three with automatic exponential back-off on throttling. Most 100-site tenants complete in two to four minutes; 500+ site tenants typically finish in ten to twenty minutes. Results stream progressively.

One-click remediation

3
What one-click remediations are available?

Seven: enable site-level search crawling, enable library search indexing, turn on major versioning with a 50-version limit, enable content type management, reset permission inheritance, enable search indexing for the Site Pages library, and turn on versioning for the Site Pages library.

What permissions do I need to apply a fix?

For one-click remediation you need Manage Permissions or Site Administrator rights on the target library or list. If you do not have them, the Apply Fix button is hidden automatically.

Can remediations run in parallel?

Yes. Remediation actions execute in parallel and each reports its own result status, so you can fix multiple issues in one pass.

Deployment & security

4
How is GovernPoint deployed?

It is deployed once as a SharePoint Framework (.sppkg) package via the SharePoint App Catalog. There is no external cloud and no per-user subscription. Setup takes minutes.

What permissions does GovernPoint need?

For single-site scans, the signed-in user needs at least Read on the site. For Tenant View, a Global Administrator approves the Sites.Read.All and User.Read.All Graph API permissions once during deployment.

What data leaves our tenant?

None. All analysis runs locally against Microsoft Graph and SharePoint REST using the signed-in user permissions. Score snapshots are saved to a SharePoint list inside your own tenant. There is no external database and no telemetry beacon.

Does GovernPoint work on SharePoint On-Premises?

No. GovernPoint requires SharePoint Online (Microsoft 365), because Microsoft Copilot itself only works against SharePoint Online.

Troubleshooting

4
GovernPoint is not loading

Refresh the page and confirm the web part is still added to the page. If it persists, clear the browser cache and check that the GovernPoint package is deployed and enabled in your App Catalog. A Global Admin can confirm the SPFx package status.

I see "Access Denied" errors

This means the signed-in account lacks permission on the item being scanned. Ask a site administrator to grant at least Read on the site, or Manage Permissions if you need to apply remediations.

My score changed unexpectedly

Open the affected item detail view to see which individual checks moved from PASS to WARN or FAIL. Scores track the live state of content, permissions and versioning.
